The happy partnership with Pupi Avati, now spanning multiple decades, surfaces once again in “Unbridled Youth” [Sconfinata Giovinezza], the drama about a two dimensional mind, where the stream of memories tainted by nostalgic memories unravels and touches the heart, while at the same time merging with the stream of memories broken by Alzheimer. “The storyline of this movie is deeply felt because it can happen to anyone”, states Ortolani, “And given that it’s the delicate and heartfelt story of such an explicit drama, it wasn’t necessary to overly emphasize.
For this reason, the musical commentary limits itself to modestly highlight the characters feelings”.
The work method was the same as it has always been. Avati and Ortolani share a common musical world and have the same taste. “Therefore”, explains the Maestro, “even this time it was easy to agree on what to do, both in terms of the overall movie, and for the individual scenes, to decide when the orchestra should come in and in what way”.
